Lucy's Icehouse was named in honor of Luz Ester González. Luz's mother was from Spain and her father was from Italy. They migrated to Santo Tomas, Mexico where they became successful horse farmers. Luz was the youngest of nine children. She worked the farm as a cowgirl by day and flamenco danced in near by restaurants with her sisters at night. Luz and her sister, our Aunt Rosa, made their way to El Paso where they started a tailor shop. Luz hand sewed the President of Mexico's daughters dress which was displayed in the front window for 30 years. Luz soon became Lucy at the hand of the immigration office. Lucy found love in a wild, army heathen John Lamphear Jr. from Neberaska. Together they built a family in Virginia and eventually made their way to Ft. Hood where they settled in Copperas Cove. John and Lucy are recognized by the Moose Lodge-2029 for their dedication and contribution to the Moose Haven Children's Home. Lucy was loyal to her Catholic upbringing and Holy Family Church in Copperas Cove and the Copperas Cove Independent School District. Lucy met her maker in 2020. We know she's proud and would have something sassy to say about all the alcohol options. She's lives on in this place, we thank her and miss her everyday. |
